These cabinets can be used as stand-alone media consoles or combined to create a larger entertainment center. They are also a great alternative to custom bookshelves since they have different configurations of doors and drawers. There are many ways to design a built in media center, including the use of standard bookshelves with doors (cabinets). If you want a tall system that is greater than 96"H, use tall hutches to sit on top of the base units. For a TV, you can either use a TV hutch with a large open space and a fixed shelf above. Or, you can just leave an open space and frame it with a bridge or bookcase bridge (with storage space and optional doors) above. For electronics such as cable and streaming boxes, which need to have line of sight to a remote control, you can also use a cabinet with an optional opening at the top. For a step by step example of how to make a built in unit, see this blog article.
